About Firrhill Community Council

Firrhill Community Council was established in 1981 under the terms of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 to represent the Colinton Mains, Firrhill and Oxgangs communities, which now sit within the City of Edinburgh Council Constituency of Ward 8 - Colinton/Fairmilehead.

Its statutory purpose is to ascertain, co-ordinate and express to the local authority, and to public authorities, the views of the community which it represents, in relation to matters for which those authorities are responsible, and to take such action in the interests of that community as appears to it to be expedient and practicable.

The maximum number of members for Firrhill Community Council is set at 18, of which 12 are elected members and 6 are nominated members.  There is currently a shortfall in the number of elected and nominated members and we are keen to fill these vacant spaces.  If you are interested in representing your local community or business, please contact the Secretary for information, or come along to our meetings to find out what it is all about.

Community Council Representatives

Firrhill Community Council normally meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 6pm.  The venues for meetings can vary but we are currently meeting in the board room of the Lochan View Community Business Centre at 14 Firrhill Neuk, next to the Lochan.  Although suitable for our normal needs, this is a small venue and as a result we ask that if you wish to attend a meeting, let us know beforehand so that we can ensure the accommodation is adequate. The venue for the next meeting will be identified on the 'Home' page of this website.

Local residents are welcome to attend meetings and raise matters that may be of concern or of interest to them

Agendas are posted on notice boards at Oxgangs Library and local community centres prior to the meetings and a copy is posted on our website (see under 'Calendar').   Items can be added to the agenda by contacting our Chairperson or Secretary in advance.  Where items are raised for discussion at a meeting without prior notification, it will be at the Chairperson's discretion as to whether the item is tabled for discussion at the meeting or referred back to the next meeting.

The approved Minutes of a meeting will be posted in the 'Documents' section of the website, approximately one week after the following meeting.

Firrhill Community Council: Standing Orders

Starting at its south-east corner on Oxgangs Road at Caiystane Drive the boundary line runs west along the footpath at the rear of Dreghorn Drive to Dreghorn Link, where it turns north to form the western boundary.  Crossing over Redford Road, the line runs down along the length of what is colloquially known as the 'NAAFI path' to Oxgangs Road North at Redford Barracks.  Turning east at Firrhill High School it then forms the northern boundary as runs along the public footpath through the school and continues along the rear of Firrhill Crescent and Drive to the Braid Burn. Following the course of the burn for a short distance till it crosses under Oxgangs Avenue, it breaks of on the other side to follow the Cockmylane footpath as it runs runs south forming the eastern boundary up to Caiystane Drive.
